Sitting next to Stephen King; gasp that's sooo cool!!!
And secondly, if we are talking classics... 'there are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls' obviously the beginning of Sacrifice. I know you didn't 'write it', but you used it and it absolutely grabs the reader from the very beginning. And they say genre fiction isn't memorable? It flashes in my mind often, I can quote it, if that isn't that isn't the stuff 'classics' are made of, then I dont know what is.

Personally, I've read Classics that I've loved and reread, Classics that I've struggled through and not loved, and Classics that I've instantly forgotten. Likewise, literary fiction. In fact, I'm more likely to read literary fiction books once and then never think about them again (e.g. just about anything that has appeared on the Booker or Orange prize list). At least with genre fiction, I have the advantage of knowing in advance that I'm probably not going to like something (e.g. chick lit or 'celebrity' 'autobiography'), which either lowers my expectations going in, or discourages me from reading it at all.

Basically, I will read just about anything if I think that I will like it and get something out of it, and since I read for me rather than anyone else, I don't particularly care who sees the cover of the book or what they happen to think about it!

No need for surgery, and the plaster should come off in three weeks. Just in time for school!! I am now trying to convince Mr B that what we need to cheer us all up is a super expensive South African safari.

Yes, a dagger would be fabulous, but I have to keep telling myself the honour is in the nomination - especially as the competition is pretty stiff.

If you ever do decide to write something following in all the other crime writers footsteps with the standard police procedural without all the great stuff that makes you S J Bolton, please please please please stop what you are doing and have a skim through Sacrifice and Awakening and then hit delete and start again doing what you do best!! Your novels, especially your first two or three are so original, different, 'nuts' and just really, really good! Sacrifice is the sort of book you finish and then turn it over and start reading it again straight away. So while it's good at times to fit in, be accepted and conform I think that if what you do puts you a cut above the rest, makes you shine, stand out and makes others aspire to being more like you than making you want to be like them, then take that gift and run with it and never look back!
